I am making an effort
So I hate the style on IJ. HATE it. Grey background+orange highlights and ads = FUGLY. And it has contributed to my not being on here as much.

I'm going to make an effort though. Using the glory of pounds to dollars exchange rate, I have bought myself six months of paid time, to give a try at customising this thing they way I want and to see if I can make things more readable (esp. fic - I need to be able to do style=mine and be happy).

Question: anyone have links/info on how I can code either Smooth Sailing or Mixit on IJ using custom overrides? I know there's a way to do it, but as I was unable to do this on a free account, I didn't save the links. Now I am desperate to move my current LJ layout onto here so I can start style=mine-ing and reading fic the way I want to.

Help? Really any nifty IJ paid user stuff would be good.

See? I'm trying. And since I'll have to start posting fic here, I really do need to try.

Try these:

http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/musycal_test/1487.html -- for Smooth Sailing on GJ, but it worked for me on IJ too

http://snakeling.insanejournal.com/63503.html -- some stuff on changing IJ's site scheme on a couple of browsers

I set up smooth sailing for a wide, plain, white bg/black text comment style (bere's a non-spoiler filled entry with comments, if you wanna see it in action). I mostly just poked around the smooth sailing community on LJ for tips. [info]nameless_layout here on IJ has codes and whatnot.

i got my ss thingie to bring the stylesheet over from [info]nameless_layout, then just transfered the custom layout i already had

but dude, srsly, you need to start training yourself to accept more less-than-pretty layouts & such...not your own, of course, but, like, the general IJ format. remember the serenity prayer? yeah

You can change the viewing scheme. I like "Hand". And as has been noted, if you use Firefox with AdBlock you won't see the ads.
