Dan nudity meta, edited and unlocked
Those on my f-list: this is an edited down, public version of my post. I realised that, except for some personal TMI, this was something that everyone should be able to see and I was being a bit of a cow for f-locking it. The front sections are the same, but I added some theatre nudity blatherings at the end.
Point of the first: despite my rather catchy title (*preens*) I actually no longer think it is appropriate to say we're perving on Dan. He's nearly 18, and more to the point, he is a highly mature and sexualised almost-18-year-old who has willingly chosen to do a play with disturbing sexual content and put out there photos of himself half-naked. Dan is a businessman, one of the keener actors of his generation who seems to know exactly what he's doing (or, at least, has hired someone who knows exactly what they're doing!). And he doesn't want to be seen as a little kid anymore.

Okay then, clear? Good. Now to the part where I get prickly. I'm 23. That's five years older than Dan, less than a year out of college, only just starting her first job: 23. There is nothing inappropriate about my being attracted to Daniel Radcliffe. We can play the nickle-and-dime age game if you want, but I can tell you one thing: I am NOT too old to fancy him. Some points:
( on precocious teenage sexuality )
( on my visceral reaction to the photographs )
Now: naked Dan on stage. Apparently there is wank over people accusing other people that they are only seeing Equus for Dan's naked bits. I can understand some people being ruffled by this: I, for one, honestly have an artistic, theatre-based interest in Equus. Amadeus is my favourite film and has been for nearly ten years, so I generally enjoy Schaffer's writing, am interested in the symbolism etc. and I quite like fucked up stories. Also, there is nothing greater than in-yer-face London theatre, and with a powerhouse like Richard Griffiths playing with Schaffer's language... wow. That first monologue (with lighting!!!!) should be amazing.
But, yeah, Dan will also get his kit off. It's just a little neat.
That said, I'm not ueber, realistically enthused over the nudity. It's great to talk about in jest, to squee over, but OMG awkward. Seeing nudity on stage is always so awkward and uncomfortable (for me) because you are seeing someone at the height of vulnerability and you are sharing this experience not only with the actor, but with anywhere from 30 - 1000 other people. I have seen a healthy subset of men's bits on stage in the last two years and it rather takes getting used to. And it feels very strange. It's like porn! But it's real! Except often without a sexual stigma! (a lot of stage nudity is incidental, as many parts of Equus' will be) There was bending over and glimpse of ball-sac in the last play I saw (Blasted) and it was AWK-WARD!
Now, because of the things that I find sexy: intelligence, confidence, some measure of dorkitude, collarbones/shoulders, good hair, I honestly don't need to see Daniel starkers (on stage, *cough*). There should be some mystery to things, and for me one of those things could be Daniel Radcliffe's willy. Unfortunately, there's no Equus without naked Daniel, so I'll just have to inch down in my seat and blush until I get used to it.
But, okay. I want to know if he's packing. So shoot me! :P
Oh and check out the photographer's website. His celebrity portraits are gorgeous - I love what he does with colour. (photography nerd!)
